Düsseldorf University Hospital (UKD) is one of the largest academic medical complexes in Germany, providing maximum level of care (Maximalversorgung). Having developed on the basis of a medical academy at the beginning of the 20th century, today the hospital is a leading research and medical center in North Rhine-Westphalia. UKD consists of 30 specialized clinics and more than 30 institutes. The complex has 1300 beds and its staff includes about 6000 employees.
